Date and Time:

Wednesday, June 26, 2013, from 2:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time
(1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Central, 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. Mountain, 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Pacific)

Overview:

So you say you have a “recall plan.”  When was the last time you pulled it out and looked at it?
Do you know what FDA and USDA-FSIS require regarding recall plans?  And even if you have a recall plan,
it may not cover all the areas you need to think about and address if an actual recall occurs.  In fact,
some important areas you may need to ensure you have a plan for would not be included in a recall plan!

Ms. Jolyda Swaim will discuss the recall process as it relates to FDA and USDA-FSIS regulated products,
when to file a FDA Reportable Food Report as well as addressing many of those unidentified specifics
surrounding a recall that you may never have thought of.  These include dealing with your employees
as well as disgruntled ex-employees.  Other areas will to be discussed will be communication with the
press as well as how to handle the recall with customers and dealing with the actual nuts and bolts of recalling product.

Presenter:

Jolyda Swaim, Olsson Frank Weeda Terman Matz PC

Jolyda O. Swaim, a Principal in the Washington, D.C. law firm of Olsson Frank Weeda Terman Matz PC, focuses on USDA-FSIS and FDA regulatory matters related to meat and poultry production and high-risk FDA-regulated foods such as RTE sandwiches, salads and cheese. She provides regulatory counsel as well expertise in food safety programs and compliance.  She also assists shell egg producers with regulatory concerns regarding the FDA’s egg safety rule for the prevention of Salmonella enteritidis in eggs.

Prior to becoming an attorney, she had extensive experience in the food industry.  Her last position was with Sara Lee Corporation as Corporate Food Safety Director with oversight of meat and poultry plants, high-risk bakeries and cheese facilities in the United States and Mexico.  Additional employers included Con Agra, Inc., Campbell Soup Company and Luigino’s; providing her with in-depth knowledge of all matters of food production gained from direct control of departments such as food safety, sanitation, quality assurance, consumer affairs and operations.

Ms. Swaim received her B.S. from Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania and

her J.D. cum laude from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan.
